Worms are cold-blooded animals and therefore have no cooling system. When they are shipped in temperatures in the high 80 degrees and 90 degrees they are transported by trucks that can reach 120 to 150 degrees. This is just like leaving an animal in a vehicle in this heat.
Ice packs will last only two days and then it becomes a heat sink. By that I mean when the outside temperature does drop, the temperature inside the shipping carton will not drop. All packages shipped by express mail or FedEx are still transported by truck to the airports and spend 30 minutes to 2 hours on the black asphalt runway that is radiating super high temperatures.
UPS' brown trucks are ovens on wheels. The white trucks are better, but your chances are very slim in receiving you worms alive.
